All six JCP candidates are elected to Nagaokakyo City Assembly in Kyoto

All six Japanese Communist Party candidates, including four incumbents, were elected on October 9 to the 26-seat Nagaokakyo City Assembly in Kyoto Prefecture.

The number of votes cast for the JCP was 1.12 times that in the general election proportional representation constituency. The JCP before the election had five seats.

Citizens were calling for water rates to be reduced and for free medical services for children to be extended to school age children.

The JCP publicized as widely as possible its election policy that included reductions in water rates. To make its policy known, the JCP organized public speeches in front of one of every three houses. Nagaokakyo has a population of about 77,000. -- Akahata, October 9, 2005
