U.S. carrier aircraft conduct touch-and-goes in Kanagawa

Ignoring repeated protests from Kanagawa Prefecture, seven cities concerned, residents, and the Japanese Communist Party, the U.S. Air Force in Japan carried out night landing practices with Yokosuka-based U.S. carrier aircraft at the U.S. Atsugi Naval Facility on October 18.

E-2C Hawk Eyes repeated touch-and-go exercises from the evening hours producing unbearable noise affecting over 1.5 million residents living near the Atsugi base.

Peace organization members, including Hatano Kimie, former Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors, and many local JCP assembly members, monitored the NLPs from the north side of the base and protested to U.S. base officers.

They shouted, "Stop NLPs immediately, Give us back our quiet nights, and Stop U.S. carriers' homeporting at Yokosuka!" -- Akahata, October 19, 2005
