Japan Gensuikyo delegation meets with China's peace association

A Japan Council against A and H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) delegation visiting China held talks on October 25 with Vice-President of the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament, Liu Jingqin, in China. Later in the day the delegation met with He Luli, vice-chair of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress and president of the CPAPD.

Welcoming the Gensuikyo delegation, Liu Jingqin said that he hopes that mutual cooperation and understanding for the abolition of nuclear weapons and for peace in Asia and the rest of the world will be further developed.

Gensuikyo's Board Member Saito Osamu expressed his hope for cooperation to be increased between the two NGOs in order for the international movement for a total ban on nuclear weapons to form a majority.

Japan Gensuikyo and the CPAPD agreed that although the May 2005 NPT Review Conference as well as the U.N. world summit fell short of producing advances in the field of nuclear disarmament, the arrogance of the U.S. is under fierce criticism from throughout the world.

They also spoke about lawsuits in Japan filed by A-bomb survivors (Hibakusha) calling for their official recognition as Hibakusha with diseases caused by the A-bomb, and exchanged opinions on mutual cooperation to support these Hibakusha lawsuits.

The Gensuikyo delegation's meeting with He Luli was held at the Diaoyutai state guesthouse. -- Akahata, October 28, 2005
