DFAA admits sending out e-mail

The Defense Facilities Administration Agency on February 6 admitted that it sent out an e-mail message to Regional Defense Facilities Administration Bureaus officials in charge of U.S. military realignment requesting that they take action to dissuade local government from adopting resolutions opposing realignment plans.

The DFAA was in response to an inquiry from Inoue Satoshi, Japanese Communist Party representative, who revealed the e-mail at the House of Councilors Budget Committee meeting on February 1.

Commenting on the DFAA's reply to his inquiry, Inoue said, "The DFAA was unable to continue to deny the existence of the e-mail message because I showed them the clear evidence. The e-mail in question was aimed at thwarting local assembly opposition, and the DFAA must immediately stop interfering with local governments."
