New Zealand and U.S. unions back international anti-nuclear weapons signature campaign

New Zealand and U.S. workers unions have recently notified the Japan Council against A and H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) of their support for the new international signature collection campaign "For Swift Abolition of Nuclear Weapons" promoted by Japanese anti-nuclear weapons and peace organizations.

Aotearoa NZ Council of Trade Unions is the first national center of trade unions other than in Japan that has expressed its support for the campaign. The President of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions, Ross Wilson, sent Japan Gensuikyo a letter through Peace Council of Aotearoa President of Honor Gerald O'Brien as follows: "I am pleased to be able to confirm that, at our National Affiliates' Council meeting on the 24th February, a resolution was passed supporting the call for the swift abolition of nuclear weapons."

From the United States, Dennis Rivera, president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1199 United Healthcare Workers East expressed its support for the campaign in a message, "We are honored and proud to add our name and our commitment to the abolishment of nuclear weapons. Please add our Union's name and our President to the Petition, on behalf of our 265,000 members."

The "For Swift Abolition of Nuclear Weapons" signature collection campaign proposed by Japan Gensuikyo late last year has been carried out in Japan and abroad. The signature form is available at the following URL:
