Change in Venezuela encourages progressive Japanese people

ÒIt is encouraging to see the creative energy devoted to remaking of Venezuela.Ó Ð A Venezuelan delegationÕs lecture about their effort to establish a people-oriented Venezuela in defiance of U.S. pressures is touching the hearts of progressive Japanese people.

Venezuelan International Solidarity Committee (COSI) representatives Felipe Neri Figueroa and Yohni Ramon Nino Villarroel have been on a one-month tour in Japan since their arrival on March 14 at the invitation of the Japan Asia Africa Latin America Solidarity Committee (AALA).

In Kanagawa Prefecture, a total of 200 people on April 3 took part in a meeting as well as a visit to the U.S. Yokosuka Naval Base. A 22-year-old participant said, ÒI wonder how many dreams will come true if we change Japanese politics fundamentally.Ó

On April 4 in Saitama Prefecture, one of the 250 people who attended the meeting said, ÒListening to the delegation, I have come to clearly understand that a Ôsmaller governmentÕ pursued by KoizumiÕs Ôstructural reformÕ policy will force people to shoulder heavy burdens.Ó

After a gathering held on April 6 in Sendai City in Miyagi Prefecture, a delegation member said, ÒWe are excited at the enthusiasm of the Japanese people who are clearly interested in our struggle. We will report what we saw in Japan through a government-run TV broadcast to further encourage the Venezuelan people.Ó
