We reject national referendum bill driven by constitutional revision advocates

With banners reading, ÒArticle 9 is the world treasureÓ and ÒWe reject a national referendum bill,Ó about 400 government employees, teachers, and workers on April 6 marched in demonstration around the Diet in opposition to a national referendum bill that advocates of constitutional revision are planning to submit.

At the entrance of the Diet Building, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo and Social Democratic Party President Fukushima Mizuho as well as other Dietmembers of both parties welcomed the demonstrators.

In the meantime, the House of Representatives Special Committee for Research on the Constitution of Japan was discussing a national referendum. JCP representative Kasai Akira was facing off with pro-referendum Liberal Democratic and Democratic parties members.

Prior to the demonstration, Takada Ken of the Organizing Committee for the May 3rd Constitution Day Rally called for defending JapanÕs Peace Constitution.

A 50-year-old demonstrator said, ÒI oppose a national referendum bill. I donÕt want to see young people go to war.Ó
