2006 Spring Struggle results in bigger wage increase than last year's

The 2006 People's Spring Struggle Joint Committee consisting mainly of the National Confederation of Trade Unions (Zenroren) on April 21 said that in the 2006 Spring Struggle unions won an average wage increase of 6,415 yen per union member, up 86 yen from last year. The average rate of increase stood at 2.0 percent, the same as in 2005.

Of selected 877 unions, 37 percent have received wage increase offers. About 60 percent of the offers were bigger than last year's.

For unions affiliated with the Japanese Trade Union Confederation (Rengo), the average wage increase per union member was 5,543 yen. Both the amount and the rate of increase were bigger than last year.
