JCP Akamine speaks with municipal heads on U.S. aircraft relocation to Tsuiki Base

Japanese Communist Party House of Representatives member Akamine Seiken on May 15 visited Yukuhashi City, Chikujo Town, and Miyako Town in Fukuoka Prefecture where Japan's Air Self-Defense Force Tsuiki Base is located and met with these municipality heads and assembly chairs.

With U.S. aircraft exercises moving into the Tsuiki base under the U.S. military realignment plan, three municipal heads said to Akamine, "Even now, local residents are suffering from the noise emitted by ASDF aircraft" (Yukuhashi City Mayor Yatsunami Koichi), "Taking residents' anxieties into account, the town won't change its intention to oppose (the relocation plan)" (Miyako Town Head Shiraishi Haruo), and "It's difficult to accept (the relocation plan) as burdens are expected to be heavier than that from the previous Japan-U.S. joint military exercises" (Chikujo Town Head Arakawa Hisami).

Akamine said, "The JCP will consistently oppose the strengthening of the functions of U.S. bases in cooperation with relevant local governments, assemblies, and residents."

These three municipalities have been expressing their intention to jointly make efforts to oppose the relocation plan.
