In 7 months, JCP wins 349 local assembly seats, LDP 149, Komei 239, DPJ 63

The Japanese Communist Party has made advances in recent local assembly elections in comparison with other parties, reported JCP Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi at a press conference on September 4.

Between the JCP 24th Congress in January and August 28, local assembly elections took place in 159 municipalities. As a result, the percentage of JCP members in these assemblies rose from 6.8 percent to 7.9 percent.

The JCP won a total of 349 seats in these elections, the Liberal Democratic Party 149, Komei Party 239, Democratic Party (DPJ) 63, and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) 52.

Ichida stated, "The advance of the JCP is a reflection of anger of local residents not only against adverse politics in the respective municipalities but also the central government policies that hurt local economies and living conditions."
