Court orders company to revoke workers' dismissal

Ten workers belonging to a local chapter of the National Confederation of Trade Unions (Zenroren)-affiliated All-Japan Metal and Information Machinery Workers' Union (JMIU) won on September 10 a lawsuit seeking the reversal of their dismissals.

The plaintiffs were former employees at Kansai Kinzoku Co. Ltd. (Yodogawa Ward, Osaka Prefecture).

The Osaka District Court fully acknowledged the plaintiffs' claim that it is unfair for the company to dismiss them on the grounds of its poor business performance. It ordered the company to revoke the dismissals of all ten workers and pay them wages for the period between their dismissals and the settlement of the case.

At a rally held after the ruling, about 160 supporters congratulated the workers' on their victory.

Local chapter chair Narita Keiichi thanked participants for their support and said, "We believe that returning to our workplace is our true victory. We will continue to strive to go back to work."
