Protest actions carried out for a year at U.S. Camp Hansen

Protest actions demanding removal of an urban warfare training facility complex from U.S. Camp Hansen conducted every Wednesday at the gate of the base in Okinawa have entered the second year on October 11.

Some 100 people from the Okinawa United Action Liaison Council (Toitsuren), which consists of peace and democratic organizations from throughout the prefecture, displayed placards reading "Remove Range 4" to U.S. military personnel as they drove through the camp gate.

Arakaki Shigenobu, a Toitsuren representative, said that the weekly action is aimed at not only removing the training facility complex built at Camp Hansen Range-4 but demonstrating solidarity with people throughout the world who are suffering from damages caused by U.S. forces.

Arakaki emphasized the need to persistently develop the movement in order to foil the U.S. military realignment plan and the construction of a new U.S. base that are to make Okinawa a stronghold of the Japan-U.S. military alliance.
