Shii visits industry co-op in Vietnam

A Japanese Communist Party delegation to Vietnam led by Chair Shii Kazuo on January 11 visited a plastic manufacturing industry cooperative in Hung Yen Province and an information and communications company in Hanoi City.

At the Song Long Cooperative which was established in 1960 to produce plastic products with about 1,000 partners and employees, Cooperative Head Nguen Zan Ho explained that its operating revenue rapidly increased from 400 million dong (about 3 million yen) in 1995 to 305 billion dong (about 2.2 billion yen) last year. He said that the top decision-making body is the cooperative congress attended by some 300 partners who contributed funds, and that it adopts business plans and appoints the management.

Shii expressed his gratitude for a warm welcome and said, "Your explanation was very interesting. I feel that the Song Long Cooperative is conducting a significant exploration in establishing a system in which workers are the protagonists under the 'socialist-oriented market economy.' I hope you will succeed in this undertaking."

Later in the day, the JCP delegation visited FPT, a telecom company. Engaged in the IT business, including software development and personnel training, this company is fast growing as the number of its employees increased to 6,000 from 13 in the past eight years. It used to be a state-run enterprise but was corporatized in 2002. Its employees hold most of the stocks of the company and the government is the largest shareholder, holding 8-9 percent of the stocks.

CEO Truong Gia Binh explained that the company takes Ho Chi Minh's words and other lessons learnt from the liberation war into its management policy.
