Ichida meets with Cuban Ambassador

At the invitation of the Cuban Ambassador to Japan, Orlando Hernandez, Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi on March 14 had dinner with the ambassador at his official residence in Tokyo.

In response to the Cuban ambassador’s requests, Ichida explained JCP’s activities in relation to the forthcoming nationwide simultaneous local elections and the House of Councilors election. The ambassador asked about the moves of the Abe Cabinet and other parties as well as voters’ reactions to those moves.

In a friendly atmosphere, they spoke about the growing opposition to neo-liberalism and distancing from the United States in Latin America, Cuba’s role in the ongoing changes, and the uniqueness of anti-communist sentiment in Japanese society. They also talked about the direction to take to further develop relations between the JCP and the Communist Party of Cuba.
