Fukuda resigns from pro-constitutional revision parliamentary league

Prime Minister Fukuda Yasuo on November 12 resigned from a pro-constitutional revision parliamentary league, according to his office response to Akahata on the same day.

Fukuda was listed as a gvice presidenth of the Parliamentary League to Promote the Enactment of a New Constitution in its list of officials made public on November 8. Akahata has asked Fukudafs office to confirm the information.

It is serious for a prime minister to serve as an official of an organization with the aim of constitutional revision because the Constitution obliges ministers to protect it.

The officialsf list was published when this group held an urgent meeting to discuss the best way to revive the pro-constitutional revision movement that received a severe blow caused by the abrupt resignation of Abe Shinzo, an ultra-rightist politician in favor of constitutional revision, as prime minister.
