JCP Shii holds talks with Argentine ambassador

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on April 17 met with Argentine Ambassador to Japan Daniel Adan Dziewezo Polski at the JCP head office.

The two exchanged views on some issues surrounding the global financial crisis and talked about the domestic situations in both Japan and in Argentina.

Polski explained that the impact of the financial crisis on his country has been comparatively small thanks to the government policy of economic management that is attempting to diversify trade partners while increasing exports and reducing dependence on the United States. This policy can be attributed to Latin America’s regional economic integration, he stressed.

Referring to the plan on a forum of Latin American and Caribbean states, JCP Chair Shii pointed to the significance of the joint efforts by Argentine President Fernandez (Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner) and Brazilian President Lula at the recent G20 financial summit in opposition to the call for “deregulation of the labor market,” which was later omitted from the draft declaration.

Shii also stated that he is paying attention to the Argentine government’s opposition to neo-liberalism, its effort to boost self-reliance, enhance democracy, and make efforts to prevent the dismissals of workers.

Polski stated that the Argentine government is giving top priority to maintaining jobs, and has contributed to the G20 summit so that its decisions reflect Latin America’s joint demands.

Analyzing Japan’s economy that has been greatly hit by the financial crisis, Shii explained that they owe much of the adverse affects to its excessive dependence on foreign markets, specifically on North America. In both Japan and Argentina, neo-liberalism has no future, Shii added.

Shii and Polski confirmed that they will increase exchanges between the Japanese Communist Party and the Argentine government. - Akahata, April 18, 2009
