Kokuta stresses importance of unified international action against North Korea's nuclear test

The House of Representatives on May 26 adopted a unanimous resolution condemning North Korea's nuclear test.

Pointing out that North Korea's nuclear test "clearly violates the relevant United Nations resolution, the joint statement of the Six-Party Talks, and the Japan-North Korea Pyongyang Declaration," the resolution stated that "Japan as the only a-bombed nation can never accept North Korea's repeated nuclear tests."

Stating, "North Korea's recent test, in particular, goes against the rising momentum toward eliminating nuclear weapons and is most regrettable," the resolution requested the North Korean government to dismantle its entire nuclear program and to accept an international inspection team with the view of achieving a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.

Later in the day, Japanese Communist Party Diet Policy Commission Chair Kokuta Keiji said to reporters, "The JCP condemns North Korea's nuclear test as outrageous because it clearly violates a U.N. Security Council resolution. That's why the JCP voted in favor of the resolution."

"The JCP thinks that to urge the North Korean government to change its policy, it is important for the international community to act in unity", Kokuta added.
