Ogata meets with Cuba's ICAP vice president

Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo on May 26 met with Alicia Corredera Morales, vice president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), and Cuban Ambassador Jos? Fern?ndez de Coss?o at the JCP headquarters.

Corredera explained the ICAP's activities and handed Ogata a letter from ICAP President Kenia Serrano Puig expressing her hope for the cooperation and solidarity with the JCP to be strengthened.

Ogata stressed the Cuban people's struggle against U.S. economic sanctions and the new era of regional unity that Latin America is experiencing. He also stated that as Cuban delegates have taken part in the World Conference against A & H Bombs since the 1960s, Japanese and Cuban peace movements have developed significant cooperation in peace and anti-nuclear weapons tasks. Pointing out that the struggles for peace throughout the world are in the background of U.S. President Barack Obama's speech calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons, Ogata said that the JCP wants to further develop cooperation with the ICAP.

After the talks, Corredera and the Cuban ambassador visited the Akahata offices.
