Aso decides to call for early general election on August 30
Prime Minister Aso Taro announced that he will dissolve the House of Representatives as early as July 21 in order to hold a general election on August 30. Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi said, "We will take up that challenge."

It is important to note that the G8 Summit, which includes four of the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council that are permitted by the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) to possess nuclear weapons, made the commitment to achieving a nuclear weapons free world.

Minamata-disease victims watching the proceedings in the House of Councilors from the public gallery were infuriated to see the Liberal Democratic, Komei, and Democratic parties use their force of majority to approve a law to acquit Chisso Corp. of the responsibility for the pollution that caused the disaster without relieving the victims suffering from neurological disorders due to the pollution.
