Ogata meets with Indian trade union delegation

Japanese Communist Party Vice President Ogata Yasuo on September 4 met with leaders of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) at the JCP head office.

CITU President Madhukar Kashinath Pandhe and Vice President Basudeb Acharia were visiting Japan at the invitation of the National Confederation of Trade Unions (Zenroren).

In the meeting, Ogata explained the results of the August 30 House of Representatives general election and the JCP stance on a new Japanese government to be established with the Democratic Party of Japan as the main ruling party.

JCP People's Movement Committee Vice Chairperson Mito Masao explained the state of Japanese workers and their struggles as well as the JCP's opposition to large corporations' mass layoffs of temporary workers.

Pandhe gave an explanation of the results of the recent Indian general election in May and the current situation of the Indian economy in which unemployment has increased due to the economic crisis.

Ogata expressed his appreciation for the fact that since 1983, CITU has sent a delegate to the World Conference against A & H Bombs every year. In response, Pandhe said that CITU aims to collect 5 million signatures in support of the campaign calling for elimination of nuclear weapons and has already collected 1 million signatures.
