JCP Chair Shii holds talks with Chinafs Vice President Xi

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on December 15 held talks with Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping at a Tokyo hotel.

Recalling that JCP Chair Shii and Chinese President Hu Jintao in their talks in May 2008 in Tokyo agreed on the need for the Japanese Communist Party and the Communist Party of China to work to: (1) contribute to developing Japan-China relations; (2) establish together peace in Asia and the rest of the world; and (3) intensify theoretical exchanges between the JCP and the CPC, two parties that are working in the cause of socialism/communism under different conditions, Shii and Xi confirmed to make further efforts to develop the relations between the two parties.

Xi stated that Japan-China relations, which were restored 37 years ago, have developed to the highest ever level, and that the JCP has made contributions to ensure this achievement.

Xi said that the global economic crisis has proven the failure of the past formula for capitalist development and that no one can single out a development formula or values of a particular country as a perfect example for success.

Shii said that each country has its peculiar values and approaches to its particular definition of development and that it is important in the present-day world to respect each otherfs values and approaches, adding that it is wrong to impose a particular view and development formula on others.

Shii also said that in Japan, even the mass media has taken up the topic of the glimits of capitalismh, suggesting how deep the contradictions of capitalism really are.

Shii then explained that the draft Resolution of the JCP 25th Congress envisages world development in the 21st century as essentially directed toward a change in social systems; from capitalism to socialism/communism.

Shii stated that now that countries aiming to achieve socialism are being tested to see if they can effectively deal with the global economic and environmental crises, they are perceived to be able to achieve positive results in regard to these universal issues much better than capitalist countries.

JCP Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi, JCP Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo, Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cui Tiankai, and Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei also attended the talks.
