The ruling coalition at a House of Representatives Welfare Committee meeting unilaterally ended discussions on the so-called “pension cuts bill” and took a vote despite fierce protests from opposition parties, including the Japanese Communist Party.
A rally took place to oppose a plan to deploy the crash-prone Osprey aircraft to the U.S. Yokota Air Base located in a western suburb of Tokyo. Around 5,000 people joined in the rally held near the base.
