Newspaper workers’ unions call for defending freedom of the press

Reflecting on the past that the newspaper industry had supported Japan’s war of aggression, the Japan Federation of Newspaper Workers’ Unions in its convention adopted a new action program committed to fight for freedom of the press.

Turning its back on the past court proposal, the Abe Cabinet decided to restart court battles as the Henoko issue is coming to a stalemate and the government is being driven into a corner.

Okinawa assembly adopts statement demanding cancellation of US helipad construction in Takae

Provoking a howl of protest, the Defense Ministry’s Okinawa Defense Bureau resumed the U.S. helipad construction in Takae. Riot officers barricaded the public road leading to the construction site and forcibly dispersed peacefully protesting residents.
