JCP task force begins investigation on 'politics and money’ corruption

July 3, 2009
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo announced that the party had established a task force to investigate into the allegations of illegal political funds collection by politicians of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and the opposition Democratic Party of Japan.

The JCP task force will be headed by Ichida Tadayoshi, JCP Secretariat head and member of the House of Councilors.

In explaining the aim of the task force at a news conference on July 2, Shii stated:

“Both the LDP and the DPJ are called upon to come clean about the serious allegations regarding their plutocratic corruption. As they have not come clean regarding the allegations of corrruption, the JCP will do everything it can to unravel the extent of the scandal.

If the House of Representatives is dissolved for a general election without the LDP
and the DPJ explaining about the allegations, voters will have deep political distrust when they go to the polls.

In order to enable voters to make their choices in the election in which the main issue is Japan’s political course for the 21st century, it is absolutely necessary to determine the truth about the allegations before dissolving the House of Representatives for a general election. -Akahata, July 3, 2009
