Ozawa’s arrested ex-aide urged to testify in the Diet

February 12, 2010
Ishikawa Tomohiro, Democratic Party Dietmember and ex-secretary of DPJ Secretary General Ozawa Ichiro who has been indicted for alleged corruption, has expressed his intention to leave the DPJ but retain his seat in the Diet.

Japanese Communist Party Policy Commission Chair Koike Akira on February 11 published the following statement on Ishikawa’s withdrawal from the DPJ:

It is imperative for Ishikawa to step down from the legislature but before that he should appear as a sworn witness before the Diet concerning the allegation. It will be impermissible for the DPJ to dodge public criticism by Ishikawa’s departure from the party without summoning him.

Ishikawa has been accused of giving false statements in Ozawa’s political funds reports as a secretary of Ozawa. Thus, Ozawa himself should bear political and moral responsibility and the JCP calls on all parties involved to testify in the Diet.
