JCP Chair Shii and Chinese Foreign Minister Yang hold talks

November 21, 2009
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo and Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on November 20 held talks at the JCP head office in Tokyo.

The two discussed the abolition of nuclear weapons, the global economic crisis as well as problems of capitalism, theoretical questions relating to socialism/communism, and the development of relations between Japan and China and between the JCP and the Communist Party of China.

On nuclear weapons

Shii explained the JCP position which holds that various partial nuclear disarmament measures alone are not enough for totally eliminating nuclear weapons and that international negotiations for the abolition of nuclear weapons are essential.

Yang spoke about the Chinese policy approach to issues regarding nuclear weapons, including their abolition.

On global economic crisis

Yang explained how support for the cause of socialism and communism is increasing.

Shii said that the issue of “limitations of capitalism” has come to be discussed in the media.

On Japan-China relations

Shii and Yang recalled the talks in May 2008 between JCP Chair Shii and Chinese President Hu Jintao in Tokyo when the two leaders agreed that the JCP and the CPC will contribute to developing their bilateral relations, cooperate in the cause of peace in Asia as well as throughout the world, and promote theoretical exchanges as parties aiming to achieve socialism/communism even though they are working under different conditions.
