Tokyo governor receives donation from casino promoter

November 22, 2013
Tokyo Governor Inose Naoki, a strong advocate of casino legalization, received last year 100,000 yen in a donation from the chair of Sega Sammy Holdings, who is also a promoter of casino gambling.

This was revealed in political funds reports published by the Tokyo Metropolitan Electoral Management Committee on November 20.

Sega Sammy, a holding company of pachinko machines and game manufacturers, has come up with a scheme to buy a resort facility in Miyazaki Prefecture to open a casino resort.

The company is headed by Chairman Satomi Hajime, who invited Prime Minister Abe Shinzo to his daughter’s wedding as the guest of honor.

Prime Minister Abe is the top advisor of a parliamentarians’ league working for casino legalization, consisting of more than 100 Dietmembers of the Liberal Democratic, Komei, Democratic, Your, Japan Restoration, and People’s Life parties.
