JCP releases new Internet animation characters for election campaign

December 3, 2014
The Japanese Communist Party released season 2 of its on-line series “Kakusanbu” on December 2 to publicize the JCP election platform on websites so that voters can share and tweet information, following the first animated series released for the House of Councilors election last summer which attracted much attention.

Three new characters were added and will convey to viewers JCP policies and election issues through conversations with the eight existing members of the JCP virtual bureau of Kakusanbu.

One of the new characters, “Sakiokuri” plays an evil role deceiving ordinary people with procrastination in deciding on support for a consumption tax hike to 10%. The wallet-shaped character “Gamagucchan” who is in charge of tax savings for ordinary households explains to Sakiokuri the JCP counterproposal.

Gamagucchan explains that the JCP is proposing the creation of a progressive tax system with fair burdens of taxes on the rich and large corporations, and implementing measures to improve the household economy so that the country can then achieve a rise in tax revenues which can then lead to economic recovery.

The other new characters are the twin brothers “B.K. and B.B” who play roles exploiting workers and part-time young workers, and “Saikado” plotting a return to nuclear power generation.

“Koyo no Yoko” in charge of labor issues and sun-shaped “Otento Sun” give opinions to counter those of the new characters, respectively.
