Okinawa Police arrested female US marine for hit-and-run

September 6, 2016
A 23-year-old female U.S. marine was arrested by the Uruma Police in Okinawa on suspicion of a hit-and-run, Akahata learned on September 5.

At around 6 p.m. on September 4, U.S. Marine Corporal Javvi Avila, who serves at U.S. Camp Foster in the prefecture, drove her car into a parked car on a public road in Uruma City. After proceeding about 200 meters, the corporal crashed her car into a roadside fence. The police arrived on the scene in response to an emergency call from a Japanese man who was in the parked car but suffered no injuries, and arrested the marine.

She refused to talk about the accident, said the police.
