JCP and CPV hold 4th theoretical exchange meeting

October 28-31, 2011
The Japanese Communist Party and the Communist Party of Vietnam held a theoretical exchange meeting in Da Nang, Vietnam on October 29 and 30 with the theme, “capitalism and socialism in the 21st century.”

This was their fourth theoretical exchange. The JCP delegation led by Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo visited Vietnam at the invitation of the Vietnamese ruling party.

At the opening of the two-day meeting, Dinh The Huynh, chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, who is also a head of the CPV’s delegation, and Ogata gave the keynote speeches.

Huynh, referring to the CPV’s 11th Congress held in January and Vietnam’s 25-year Doi Moi (renovation) policy, analyzed the present world based on the nation’s practices, present-day capitalism, and socialism in the 21st century.

Ogata introduced how the JCP sees the 21st century world, the opening of a path toward socialism in capitalist countries, and tasks of socialism in the present world. Stressing that the two parties have differences in their current tasks but share some long-term objectives, the JCP vice chair said that such exchanges are important for both sides to develop and deepen mutual understanding.

Following reports by other delegates of both parties, participants exchanged opinions about moves taking place worldwide to break away from capitalism, roles of a market economy, outlook for alternative energy sources after withdrawal from nuclear power generation, and trends in regard to imperialism.

In his closing remarks, Ogata said that the meeting was a good occasion for the JCP delegation to understand the progress of the Doi Moi policy from various perspectives.

Le Huu Nghia, vice chairman of the Council, stated that it was a fruitful meeting in which both sides could continue to learn from each other.

Prior to the meeting on October 28, the JCP delegation visited the National Academy of Public Administration in Ho Chi Minh City and talked with Academy Director Ta Ngoc Tan.
