JCP greets the 35th Congress of the Left Party, Sweden

The Japanese Communist Party Central Committee sent the following message of greeting to the 35th Congress of the Left Party, Sweden (February 19-22 in Stockholm) :

We sincerely hope that you will make further progress in the struggle against the lawless war and the illegal occupation of Iraq, and in the effort to achieve an international order centering around the United Nations as well as to defend Sweden's position of non-alignment. We are also looking with great interest at your efforts to control economic domination and speculative activities by large corporations, achieve full employment and a six-hour workday, and improve and expand comprehensive social welfare programs with the view of establishing a society based on justice and solidarity.

The U.S. war of aggression and the ensuing unjustifiable military occupation have exacerbated the Iraqi situation. We are making every effort to stop the United States acting as a self-styled "world policeman"with its preemptive attack strategy and new form of colonialism and establish an international order that maintains peace based on the UN Charter. We will continue to devote all our energy to the struggle to abrogate the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty and rid Japan of U.S. forces and its military bases, and build a non-aligned and neutral Japan while contributing to cementing international solidarity to achieve a world without nuclear weapons or military alliances and develop dialogue and the coexistence among the various cultures with different values.

At the JCP 23rd Congress in January, we adopted the new JCP Program. In the tumultuous 21st century world, it elucidates our present-day outlook for a future society of socialism/communism while making it clear that the immediate task of change in Japan is to carry out a democratic revolution to put an end to Japan's subordination to the United States and the tyrannical rule by large corporations and business circles, and sets out policy programs to be carried out in political, economic, and diplomatic fields, as part of the democratic revolution. The JCP Program also puts forward the objectives of defending the world peace and establishing a democratic and peaceful international order in opposition to the U.S. strategy of hegemony.

We hope that exchanges and cooperation will be further developed between our two parties on issues of world peace and progress as well as perspectives for social change in the developed capitalist countries.

We wish you a great success in the Left Party 35th Congress set to adopt its new Party Program and its policy platform for the upcoming European Parliament election. (end)
