Gensuikyo determined to lead anti-nuclear movement

The Japan Council against A & H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) held its 77th board meeting in Tokyo on February 5 and 6, and decided to create a groundswell of the movement for the abolition of nuclear weapons this year, marking the 60th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Secretary General Takakusagi Hiroshi stressed the importance of increasing the signature campaign "Abolish Nuclear Weapons Now!" He called on all Gensuikyo activists to use the March 1 Bikini Day Action as a springboard for increasing domestic and international activities in preparation for the NPT Review Conference in May as well as to make efforts to bring success to the 2005 World Conference against A & H Bombs in August.

Iwasa Mikio, vice secretary general of the Japan Confederation of A & H Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Japan Hidankyo), requested Gensuikyo's support for A-bomb survivors' lawsuits demanding that the government recognize their diseases as caused by the A-bombings. (end)
