Delegation of Vietnam Women's Union visits JCP head office

A Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) delegation headed by President Ha Thi Khiet visited the JCP head office on April 25 and met with JCP House of Councilors members Yoshikawa Haruko and Kami Tomoko.

Khiet expressed gratitude to the support provided by the Japanese people and the JCP during the Vietnam war for liberation. She said that women, who now account for 51 percent of the Vietnamese population, participate in various political and economic activities, and try to elevate women's status and rights under the doi moi policy.

Yoshikawa and Kami congratulated the delegation on the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's liberation and told them about the spread of people's movements to defend the war-renouncing Article 9 of the Constitution, and the JCP criticism of the Japanese government for never expressing remorse for the war of aggression.

They also spoke about their activities to try to legislate for protecting victims involved in "human trafficking" in cooperation with women's organizations.

The VWU delegation arrived in Japan on April 21 and had meetings with groups affiliated with the Japan Federation of Women's Organizations (Fudanren), the New Women's Association of Japan, and also inspected the U.S. Yokosuka Naval base. (Akahata April 26, 2005)
