JAL again cuts CAs

gWhat is the revitalization of Japan Airlines all about? the company is throwing out its cabin attendants who have been working hard on the front lines to regain the public trust in JAL,h said Japanese Communist Party representative Takahashi Chizuko on April 2.

During the House of Representatives Committee meeting on labor issues, Takahashi criticized JAL for moving ahead with the outrageous layoff plan for the sake of its revival under the Corporate Rehabilitation Law.

The company is forcing 500 CAs based in Osaka Airport and 60 in Fukuoka to choose between a transfer to Haneda or Narita or accept early retirement.

JCP Takahashi pointed out that the plan is nothing other than personnel cuts targeting female workers who find it difficult to relocate to a distant workplace.

The government, however, in response told Takahashi that labor laws and childcare and family care leave laws must be valid even if a company is engaging in a corporate reorganization.

Takahashi demanded that the government fulfill its role in preventing corporations from carrying out undue massive layoffs.
