JCP wins five seats in Okinawa assembly election
In the Okinawa Prefectural Assembly election on June 8, the Japanese Communist Party increased the number of its seats to five from three. By winning more than four seats, the JCP will have the right to introduce bills and question the governor at the plenary session of the prefectural assembly.

Government wants to send GSDF to Afghanistan
The government is laying the groundwork for sending a team to Afghanistan by mid-June to see if it is feasible to send Ground Self-Defense Force units to the country. Government officials revealed that the study team will consist of officials from the Foreign and Defense ministries.
