US military aircraft loses metal part during flight drill

July 16, 2017
A U.S. military transport aircraft lost a metal part during flight training exercises, Akahata learned on July 15. The aircraft is stationed at the U.S. Yokota base in western Tokyo.

The C-130H aircraft on July 11 landed at the Yokota base after conducting flight drills. On the following day, a 450 gram part of the landing equipment was found to be missing.

It was just last month that a part-lost accident occurred at the Yokota base. One of the panels was discovered to be missing from the upper side of the left wing of a U.S. C5M Galaxy transport aircraft that had flown in from the U.S. Kunsan Base in South Korea.

The Tokyo Metropolitan government and a liaison council of municipal governments surrounding the U.S. base on July 13 made representations to the U.S. Forces in Japan and the Japan Defense Ministry. The local governments protested against the repeated mishaps and demanded a thorough investigation into the cause and the implementation of measures to prevent recurrence.
