Shii: SDF’s antisubmarine drills in South China Sea do much harm but no good

September 18, 2018
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on September 17 tweeted that antisubmarine drills by Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force in the South China Sea “do much harm but no good”.

In his tweet on Twitter, Shii said, “What is most needed is to conduct diplomacy in a logical manner and criticize China’s move to forcibly change the status quo as an act of hegemonism violating the UN Charter and the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea. To take military actions while making no diplomatic effort may only intensify regional tensions and create innumerable harmful effects.”

The Defense Ministry Maritime Staff Office on the day announced that the Maritime SDF recently held antisubmarine exercises in the controversial area and that the MSDF submarine Kuroshio took part in the drills for the first time.
