Koike: Japanese gov't should demand that Saudi Arabia investigate journalist's death

October 23, 2018

Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Koike Akira at a press conference on October 22 said, "The Japanese government should demand that the Saudi government uncover the whole truth," regarding the allegation that a famous Saudi Arabian journalist was murdered inside the Saudi Arabian Consulate General in Turkey.

Koike made this statement after criticizing the Japanese government for just stating, "We will pay close attention to the proceedings."

Reportedly, the Saudi authority admitted that the journalist critical of the government died in a confrontation with Saudi officials who were trying to force him to go with them back to Saudi Arabia. "It is a big problem to try to forcibly bring the person critical of the regime home from abroad," said Koike.

It is suspected that the Saudi government in a planned and systematic manner killed the prominent reporter. Koike pointed out, "If it is true, it will constitute a serious international crime which has never been candidly dealt with before."
