2021 Peace March assembles in Nagasaki

August 7, 2021

The 2021 antinuke Peace March arrived at the Nagasaki Peace Memorial Park on August 6.

Nagasaki Governor Nakamura Hodo sent a message of solidarity and the director of the Nagasaki Peace Museum read out a message from Nagasaki City Mayor Taue Tomihisa expressing solidarity with the peace marchers.

The mayor in his message said, "The need is for us, civil society, to raise our voices more tenaciously and join hands to develop the budding Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) into an internationally-supported treaty in order to realize the elimination of nuclear weapons."

Tanaka Shigemitsu, head of a Nagasaki A-bomb survivors' group, said that 71% of Japanese in an opinion poll answered, "Japan should participate in the TPNW," adding, "The government of Japan should listen to this demand and take a lead in realizing a world without nuclear weapons by signing and ratifying the TPNW."
