NPOs ask JCP to press gov’t to make immediate diplomatic efforts for ceasefire in Gaza

October 17, 2023
Japanese Communist Party members of the House of Councilors Inoue Satoshi and Yamazoe Taku on October 16 met with representatives of two NPOs, the Japan International Volunteer Center (JVC) and the Campaign for the Children of Palestine (CCP Japan), in the Diet building and were asked to cooperate so that the Japanese government can work with all parties concerned toward an immediate cessation of all violence in Israel and Palestine.

JVC Imai Takaki told the two JCP Dietmembers that his NPO together with three other organizations, including Children without Borders Japan (KnK), submitted a written demand to Minister of Foreign Affairs Kamikawa Yoko to make immediate diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire at the earliest possible date. Imai requested the JCP to work for a ceasefire.

CCP Japan Nakamura Tetsuya said, “The Gaza Strip has been under a military blockade by Israeli troops for more than a decade and is now under continuous Israeli airstrikes on the largest-ever scale. Our staff in Gaza are having a difficult time protecting the children there.”

JVC Namiki Mai said, “Gaza buys electricity from Israel but the power supply has been cut off. Water, food, clothing, and other supplies are also banned.” She explained the current situation in Gaza which has long been oppressed. She asked the JCP to concretely work toward a ceasefire.
