November 2, 2023

Cross-party female members of the prefectural and municipal assemblies in Hiroshima Prefecture on October 31 issued a statement calling for a peaceful settlement of the Israel-Gaza conflict and sent it to Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko.

Female assemblypersons in their statement as lawmakers in Hiroshima pursuing lasting world peace based on the Atomic-bomb experience call on the warring parties to settle the ongoing conflict in a peaceful manner, and demand that actions needed to achieve this be taken such as breaking the chain of retaliation, ending immediately indiscriminate attacks, complying with international humanitarian law, and prohibiting attacks against medical personnel and facilities.

The statement urges the Japanese government to work hard to resolve the dispute in order to save innocent Israeli and Palestinian citizens.

At a press conference held in the Hiroshima City office, JCP member of the Hiroshima Prefectural Assembly Kawamura Akiko said, “It is significant that the statement calling for the ongoing conflict in Gaza be settled by peaceful means was published by cross-party female assemblypersons in Hiroshima where the world’s first atomic bomb was dropped.”
