The Israeli military has resumed a large-scale ground operation in the Gaza Strip in Palestine. This action escalates the genocide campaign to a new level, as Israel has continued attacks and obstructed the delivery of aid supplies since violating the January ceasefire agreement. It is utterly unacceptable, exacerbating to the extreme the dire and inhumane conditions being faced by Gaza residents. The Japanese Communist Party condemns Israel's ground operations and indiscriminate attacks, and strongly urges their immediate cessation.

Following an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that declared Israel's long-standing occupation of Palestine to be in violation of international law, the UN General Assembly in September last year adopted a resolution calling on Israel to end its occupation policy within one year. The resolution also called on member states to implement non-military measures and sanctions, such as banning arms exports to Israel and imports from the unlawful settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory. The JCP strongly urges the international community, including the business community, to strictly implement the sanctions under the UN resolution.

The Japanese government supported this UN resolution, and Prime Minister Ishiba has stated that Japan “upholds the international order based on the rule of law.” Concrete actions must now follow, such as canceling plans to import Israeli-made attack drones and suspending negotiations on an economic partnership agreement with Israel. The government should urge the U.S., which provides Israel with political and military support, to halt such support. The JCP urgently calls for intensified efforts in Japan to stop the genocide in Gaza and to strengthen international solidarity.
