Nihon Hidankyo denounces US attack on Iranian nuclear sites

June 23, 2025

Tanaka Terumi, a representative director of the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo), in an Akahata interview on June 22 said that the U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear sites “is an unforgivable outrage.”

Tanaka said, “The U.S. attack on Iranian nuclear facilities is unacceptable and extremely regrettable. We Hibakusha (A-bomb survivors) have repeatedly called for a solution to the nuclear issue through diplomacy and negotiations, not war.” He added, “There has never been a time when the danger of nuclear war has been so high,” and called for solutions through negotiations, not through violence.

Japan Gensuikyo protests against US strike on Iran

Yasui Masakazu, secretary general of the Japan Council against A and H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo), in a statement he released on June 22, firmly denounced the U.S. attack on Iran as a war crime that violates international law and the UN Charter. He pointed out that the unprovoked attack could lead to an escalation of military tensions in the Middle East and a widening of the conflict, and called for an immediate end to further acts of lawlessness.

In addition, Yasui stated that the attack on nuclear facilities is a violation of international law, including the Geneva Conventions. He demanded that it be stopped immediately.

Noting that Japan is the country that renounces war under Article 9 of the Constitution and is the only country in the world that had suffered the devastation of A-bombings, he demanded that the Japanese government act to make the U.S. Trump administration abide by international law and the UN Charter.
