The announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, an Islamist group in Gaza, represents an important step toward ending the long-standing atrocity and is a welcome development. While the specific details of the agreement have not yet been disclosed, we strongly call on both parties to rigorously implement this agreement, bringing an end to hostilities in Gaza, ensuring the withdrawal of Israeli forces, securing the release of all hostages, and resuming humanitarian assistance.

It is imperative that this agreement not be limited to a temporary ceasefire, but rather serve as a bridge toward achieving a lasting and comprehensive peace, advancing a two-state solution that respects the Palestinian right to self-determination. For this purpose, the involvement of the United Nations and the international community is essential.

Above all, it is urgent to restart humanitarian aid to Gaza on a large scale. Israel must cease any obstruction of international humanitarian activities, including those conducted by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
