Gensuikyo and Peace Committee: Japan must not participate in attacks on Iran

March18, 2026

Three peace organizations, including the Japan Council against A and H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo), on March 17 urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure that Japan will not participate in the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war of aggression on Iran which violates the UN Charter and international law.

Representatives of the three groups said that U.S. President Trump should immediately halt its attacks on Iran. They requested that the Japanese government prevent U.S. military bases in Japan from being used for this unlawful war; reject Trump’s request for Japan’s cooperation in the military action; refuse to meet Trump’s demand for military expansion; and call for a total ban on nuclear weapons.

Chisaka Jun, secretary general of the Japan Peace Committee, pointed out that the Japanese government’s failure to criticize the preemptive attack on Iran by the U.S. and Israel as a violation of international law and the UN Charter is “contradicting Japan’s stance of upholding the ‘rule of law’.”

Yasui Masakazu, secretary general of the Japan Gensuikyo, questioned how the Japanese government could protect the Japanese people under a “rule of force”, and criticized the government for pandering to President Trump who claims that international law is unnecessary.
