JCP’s radiation monitoring result viewed by 100,000 Tokyoites

May 31, 2011
For four days since May 25, more than 100,000 people have accessed radiation monitoring results on a website published by Japanese Communist Party metropolitan assembly members.

The JCP representatives in Tokyo measured radiation level at 1 meter above the ground in 128 locations from May 6 to 25.

The result shows that the radiation level in the eastern part of Tokyo (Adachi, Katsushika, and Edogawa wards) was 0.18 - 0.39 μSv/h, three to five times higher than the results of monitoring by the Tokyo Metropolitan government (at 18 meters above the ground, taken only in Shinjuku ward).

On May 25, the JCP members made representations to the Tokyo Metropolitan government based on their findings, calling on it to measure radiation levels at 1 meter from ground level at more locations in Tokyo.

They have since received many phone calls from residents, asking them to release more detailed information and to continue monitoring at more sites.

Tokyo Governor Ishihara Shintaro on May 27 said that his government will lower the monitoring height from 18 meter to 1 meter above the ground.
