JCP Shii speaks to corporate auditors

February 26, 2009
About 120 corporate auditors listened to Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo at their gathering on February 25 in Tokyo. Shii spoke on the theme, “What kind of Japan is the JCP aiming for?”

The Auditors Association Corporation (Kansa Konwakai) that consists of corporate auditors invites public figures from various fields to speak at their monthly meeting.

Explaining the reason for asking Shii to speak, Kansa Konwakai Vice President Fujimori Kunio said, “It is unprecedented for our association to invite the JCP chair. However, we are in a difficult time and need to listen to various people.”

In his speech, Shii pointed out that LDP politics is at an impasse, and this is offering an opportunity to seek a new political direction.

He explained “capitalism without rules” should be ended by establishing conditions in which workers can work with dignity, shifting the economy from one that is dependent on exports to one driven by domestic demand, and getting out of speculative markets that rely on foreign capital.

Referring to a survey of temporary workers regarding their harsh working conditions, Shii emphasized, “Establishing rules of employment with human dignity should be the foundation of healthy economic development.”

Shii stressed the necessity of social regulations by stating, “What the JCP seeks is not to destroy the major companies. We encourage their healthy development.”

During the question and answer session, Kansa Konwakai President Harayama Michiei said, “The role of corporate auditors is to comply with the law. To my surprise, we are doing things that are similar to what the JCP is doing.”
