editorial  Latin American countries seek an equal relationship with US

April 19, 2012

Akahata editorial (excerpts)

Central and South American countries expressed a strong “No” to the U.S. policy toward Cuba at their 6th summit meeting held at Cartagena in Colombia on April 14 and 15.

It is important that countries attending the Summit of the Americas with the exception of the United States agreed to seek cooperation with each other, setting aside differences between their nation-building processes.

In December last year, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) was inaugurated, the first community in which all the countries of the American continent participate with the exception of the United States.

Putting aside ideological differences, cooperation among these countries is improving based on the principle of meeting on equal footing.

If the United States wants to enter the partnership in the region, it should stop interfering as a bully and seek an equal relationship with them.
