2012 June 27 - July 3 [NUCLEAR CRISIS]

TEPCO gives up exporting nuclear power plants to Vietnam

June 29, 2012
Tokyo Electric Power Co. on June 28 decided to abstain from exporting its technology and know-how for a nuclear power plant project in Vietnam following the cancellation of NPP exports to Turkey.

TEPCO was promoting NPP exports through the International Nuclear Energy Development of Japan (JINED) in which other power companies and nuclear plant makers jointly invest.

At the moment, TEPCO is in the process of all-out efforts to stabilize the reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi NPP damaged by the severe accident and to decommission these reactors. Reportedly, TEPCO is no longer able to send its engineers abroad.

However, a TEPCO executive told reporters that the utility will continue to hold a 20% stake in JINED.
