Ishin no Kai head shows eagerness for constitutional revision

December 11, 2012
On December 10 in Tokyo during a street speech seeking public support for Nippon Ishin no Kai (Japan Restoration Party) in the general election, JRP leader Ishihara Shintaro showed his intention to accomplish constitutional revision at any cost.

Ishihara in his speech presented his view that Japan was forced by the United States to accept the current Constitution. Speaking ill of the Preamble of the Constitution which calls for lasting peace, Ishihara said, “(The Preamble) is very ugly. It is phrased in bad Japanese.”

Using the issue of North Korea’s abduction of Japanese nationals, Ishihara attacked the war-renouncing Article 9 of the Constitution.

“Even though North Korea allegedly captured and murdered more than 200 Japanese nationals, the Japanese government couldn’t take a tough stance against the nation due to Article 9,” said Ishihara.

If the Constitution contains no provision like Article 9, Japan can bring abducted Japanese back to our homeland by showing the nation’s willingness to fight a war against North Korea, he added.
